TRAUMA

If you have had an accident or been assaulted or lived through a period of severe stress such as domestic violence or bullying, then it can have an ongoing damaging effect on your life, well after the danger has passed. Though I generally work with helping people move forward in their lives by looking at changes they can make now I have found that for some we need to do some work to help them leave distressing situations in the past. This is done by using a technique that allows the emotions to be 'unhooked' from the memories. The person will still remember what happened to them, but the memories will be in the past instead of feeling like it happened only yesterday.

During this technique, known as the 'rewind', I don't need to know what has happened to you. For some people it is too shocking or embarrassing to have to talk about it and that's fine. Other people want to give me an outline of what happened to them and that's okay too. I then help you to review those experiences in your mind, while helping you to be very relaxed. This allows the brain to realise that the danger is in the past which then allows it to store the memories differently. This technique alone can be life changing for some people. For others it is the start to helping them look forward to what they want in their life now they're no longer being held back by the trauma.

I have successfully helped people move on from such things as work place bullying, child abuse, sexual abuse and accidents using this technique.

This same technique can be used in a slightly different way to help with phobias.

LOW MOOD
It can creep up on you slowly or appear as if out of nowhere. That heavy, miserable, desperate, what's the point feeling. Everything is such an effort, you forget what it is like to laugh and can't believe that you ever did. Even small decisions are beyond you. Your mind can race, your heart can pound and yet you can hardly put one foot in front of the other. Many people successfully mask their low mood and can go to work and appear to function but what is going on behind that closed door that is there mind is another matter.

You are not alone, although that's how it can feel. In fact, 350 million people in the world now suffer with depression (World Health Organisation 2012) and this number is rising every day.

We are all different and yet low mood can affect anyone. The descriptions above are the realities of some of the ways people feel when they have aspects of depression. This isn't just feeling a bit off today and tomorrow you wake up and you're fine again no this is a bigger, sadder and much lonelier place to be. It can be started by an event in your life which upsets you or it can appear over time. Whatever the cause things can get better.

STOP SMOKING
Just imagine for a moment how good it would be to stop. Think of how much money you could save. Imagine what it would be like to get over a cold without it always going to your chest. Think of what it would be like to not be afraid of what all those chemicals may be doing inside your body. Imagine how pleased you would be with yourself if you could do this.

You know that smoking is bad for your health and your pocket. If you are happy smoking then this section is not for you but if you are someone who really wants to stop this habit then read on.

A meta-analysis undertaken by the University of Iowa, involving nearly 72,000 people, concluded that hypnotherapy was 3 times more effective than nicotine replacement therapy for quitting the smoking habit for good.*

During your sessions we will spend time discussing the pros and cons of you smoking and not smoking. Only 10% of this habit is down to the addictive nature of the nicotine and withdrawal from this chemical is very swift. Despite what people think the difficulty of stopping is not the physical addiction but the psychological habit. We will discover how this habit takes hold and what you can do to change it.

To be the most effective it needs to be you who wants to do this rather than family or friends.

If you are ready to take this impressive step then contact me to set up your appointment.

*The University of Iowa carried out a meta-analysis, using the results of more than 600 studies, with a total of nearly 72,000 people. The results included 48 studies of hypnosis covering 6000 smokers, and were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology. They clearly showed that hypnosis was three times more effective than nicotine replacement therapy. (New Scientist Volume 136).

WEIGHT ISSUES HYPNOTHERAPY
'If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution.' Unknown

Does this resonate with you? People are getting bigger, you are not alone, but you are the only one that has to live with the reality of the discomfort and unhappiness that can be created by being too heavy. It can make you feel horrible as the real you is literally being smothered. You can’t move as you want to. You feel uncomfortable. You don’t look the way you want to.

Because so many people are struggling with their weight there must be something going on. We know that being too heavy is bad for us. Many of the diseases of the Western world are as a direct result of what we are eating and how much we are eating. We all know what we should be doing, eating less and more healthily, exercising more. But we don’t seem to be able to help ourselves. Why?

That is what we will explore and explain with weight loss hypnotherapy. We will:

  • Work to reduce stress levels so that your body does not hold onto fat because, in evolutionary terms, the body evolved to store energy in times of stress.
  • Change your mindset so that you want to develop a healthier life style.
  • Change and control habits involved in eating too much.
  • Support you as we make changes that will become long-term healthy habits.
