Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP?

This form of therapy works with the client coming to a session with an intention of what they want to achieve. The reasons for seeking help are extensive. They include, but are not limited to: being less stressed, decreasing anxiety, giving up a habit such as smoking or drugs, alleviating depression, dealing with fears or phobias, wanting to lose weight, anorexia, bulimia, PTSD, OCD, giving birth, being calmer, having more confidence, improving irritable bowel, helping with chronic pain, improving sleep, coping with grief or loss, having more motivation or reaching goals.

IS IT LIKE STAGE HYPNOTISM?

There is a bit of a misconception about hypnotherapy because of hypnosis being used to entertain people. Stage hypnotism is all about entertainment - the people on the stage are there because they want to be and they are quite happy to make a fool of themselves.

I am a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and so I am very much focused towards helping the client find solutions to the difficulties they have presented with. It is all about helping the client move towards the goals they want to achieve. The client is in control at all times and cannot be made to do anything that they don't want to do. I adhere to the National Council of Hypnotherapists' Code of Ethics.

WHAT IS THE HYPNOTHERAPY PROCESS?

This is a very simple process. When you get in touch with me I ask you to come for an appointment. During this session we will have a chat about the help you are looking for and I will ask you some questions, perhaps explain how the brain works in relation to your issue and we can explore your goal and start to do some work together. You'll be able to ask any questions you may have.

For this process to work you need to want to make some changes and only you will know if the time is right for you to start.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?

This is based very much on the individual client and what they are trying to achieve. Some people will reach their goal within perhaps two or three sessions, others others may need more. Some clients will come back at a later stage to deal with different issues or to keep them on track. There is no obligation to make a further appointment.

CHOOSING A HYPNOTHERAPIST?

My goal is to run a professional, confidential, flexible service. I chose to train in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy because it is an effective therapy, conducted over a relatively short-time scale, which is based on evolving neuroscientific understanding. Experience has shown that it helps people become happier, calmer and more in control of their life.
