How can therapy help?

This form of therapy works with the client coming to a session with an intention of what they want to achieve, even if they don't know how to get there. The reasons for seeking help are extensive. They include, but are not limited to: being less stressed, decreasing anxiety, alleviating depression, trauma, fears or phobias, addiction, weight issues, OCD, being calmer, relationship difficulties, parenting support, having more confidence, improving sleep, coping with grief or loss, having more motivation or reaching goals.

What is the therapy process?

When you get in touch with Amanda she will ask you to come for an appointment. During this first session an assessment will be made about your situation, what you want from therapy and the best way of moving forward. Practical work will start in this first session.

Amanda strives to ensure that her clients feel better when they walk out of the consulting room compared to when they walk in, giving them some much needed hope for their future.

The therapy applies the very latest insights from neuroscience and psychological research and uses a combination of brief, practical psychological interventions to help the client make changes in their life. It is designed to move the therapy out of the consulting room and into your life. This is not just about having a chat and off-loading, though that is sometimes necessary, it is about making real and tangible changes. It is a collaborative process and Amanda will often ask you to do something before the next session to help you move your progress forward. 

How many sessions are needed?

This is based very much on the individual client and what they are trying to achieve. Generally, people need 4-6 sessions, although this can vary. Some people like to come along weekly, particularly initially, whilst others prefer time between sessions for progress to be consolidated or to spread the cost.  Everyone and their situation is different. Occasionally clients finish therapy and then come back at a later stage to deal with different issues or to help them deal with an on-going situation.

She chose to train in solution-focused brief human givens therapy because it is an effective therapy, conducted over a relatively short-time scale. Experience has shown that it helps people become happier, calmer and more in control of their life.
